What is your relationship with your body? I am constantly fascinated by that question. For so many people their body means merely more than the thing that holds them up and gets them to places, a tool to carry their head, a hanger for clothes, something to shape and form and control maybe. In the best cases. For some their body is their enemy, constant opposition, power play, fighting. Especially in "this world" the line between what is your body, wholesomely, spiritually, autonomously vs. the body as an instrument of commerce and status can become blurry. I have always been very fortunate to have a pretty healthy body image and I understand that that is a privilege since I also always effortlessly fitted into what was considered mainstream beauty standards. Sure, I was dreaming of bigger boobs when I was a teenager but then again I didn't really care and sunbathed topless ever since I can remember. I used to take it for granted, that effortlessly healthy body image, that lazy vanity, always prioritising pleasure, leisure and feels over a perfect appearance. I thought all girls who happened to have genes that "fitted in" were spoiled with that fluky carefreeness. But the more I talk to women who I'd often consider prettier than me I am learning that a healthy body image is anything but the norm. We get trained to look at our bodies in terms of parts, visual synchronicity, remodelling projects. I don't judge it, I am not entirely free of it either. I shamelessly lovelove my wrinkle fillers! Best invention ever, I tell everyone who compliments my "youth". And I too used to have parts of my body that bothered me, my strong back for example. But I noticed that ever since I started connecting with my body in other ways than how it looked (through dancing mostly, but also simply by enjoying it sexually, sensually, caringly) I liked it more and more and now I love everything also my strong back and small boobs. Because a body is more than just the form. A body carries and moves energy and gives us (and others) immense pleasure in various ways if we listen and let it. Bodies also not only carry all our experiences, good and bad, bodies also hold all the keys to transform them too! It's quite spectacular really and much more awe inspiring than a perfect waist line. Also, there is a reason why we don't really look at and measure our bodies during sex, but close our eyes and feel.

I have always loved plants but never really made friends with cacti. On the contrary I always thought cacti to emit a rather threatening and dark kind of feel. Many years ago I had an assembly of cacti in my bedroom because it was the cool plant-thing to do (don't ask, I don't understand either) but I quickly got rid of them. A plant that you do not have to water and that is perfectly okay with being ignored and collecting dust is not a plant I trust. Later, having been to the Californian desert, having lived in Australia and having traveled to many other dry, desert-y, cacti-abundant places of the world I changed my perception. Cacti are still not my favourite plants but I respect them for their quiet non-greedyness , for their self sufficiency and for their stoic, relentless, untouchable grandeur amidst climatic chaos! When all of a sudden, they even bloom. Vulnerable, beautiful and against all odds.
