Did you know hermit crabs are very hard to keep in captivity and live in giant herds in the wild ( you should never keep just one or two) they also need to walks miles everyday and should live in 100+ gallon tanks with wheels similar to hamsters? They also need access to salt and fresh water and should never have their shells painted.They breath through gills not lungs so having the correct humidity in the air is vital for them. Hermit crabs ideally should never be kept as pets because of their unique and specific habitat requirements. It is also almost impossible to breed hermit crabs in captivity and there are only a few breeders in the world that have successfully done so....This means all the hermit crabs you see in pet stores are wild caught and unethically taken from their homes.
