Happy Easter everyone!
Just a reminder eggs are a fantastic source of protein, so enjoy some deviled eggs, and get your cardio in (preferably not in that order)!

Thereās only one way to throw a soccer ball 40+ yards. Train back and biceps to failure ššŖš¼
Unless youāre that one acrobatic soccer player that can do a front flip before a throw in, this is the way.

Vitamin D:
One thing Iāll be taking extra advantage of this summer is getting more sunlight. The benefits of vitamin D through simply sitting under the sun is super important. Through Vitamin D alone, you are able to absorb and retain calcium and phosphorus significantly. This is fantastic for building stronger bones, reducing inflammation, and even controlling infections.

Toe touches:
The toe touch exercise fully engages the abdominal wall and helps to tone the abs, itās a great thing to focus on when performing mobility exercises. This exercise also helps to improve your posture, flexibility, balance and even hamstrings.

For all of my fellow keepers. Letās talk about hand placement.
The most important part of a keepers job is catching, distributing, and parrying the ball, in doing this we need to make sure the hands know where to go.
No matter how youāre catching the ball you must make sure your hands are placed exactly how mine are, with your thumbs reaching down to the bottom of the ball.
Create a triangle shape with your hands, then place your hands on the ball. This is roughly the position you want every single time, for this provides your hands with the most resistance possible to contain and control the ball regardless of power. Happy catching!

I know I preach consistency a lot, but itās for a good reason. Iāve been in the gym 3+ days a week for the past 7 years, and played soccer since I was 4 years old. As much as I wish it was genetics that got me here, I attribute all of my strengths and results to the consistency in training and diet.

Nothing like some late night futsal!
Today i was feeling extra sore after a couple games, so I had to stretch it out before I left. Remember stretching right after a game or even just a leg day is crucial for preventing aching muscles the next day.

Ankle stretch:
The benefits to this stretch are so important, especially in the realm of soccer and weight lifting. It involves: *Opening and strengthening the ankles.
*Provides strong stimulation of the four meridians ( main pathways that transport blo0d throughout the body) flowing through the feet and ankles.
* Offers a great counter pose for squatting or toe exercises.
If you want a greater connection to the mobility in your feet. I highly recommend adding this to your list of stretches.

Shirts versus skins, you in? š
The thing I love the most about soccer is it can played almost anywhere. The goals can consist of two shirts each, and out of bounds can be water bottles. Itās the beautiful game for so many reasons, and thatās one of them.

My favorite all time action: kicking
Before freshman year in high school, I could barely get the ball off the ground. Now, my record distance on a free kick is 65 yards.
As easy as it is to say power isnāt everything in soccer, increasing my quad strength in the gym sure did help. Thatās why whenever I hear someone say they donāt workout cause they donāt want to get too big, I laugh.

This type of drill is easily becoming my new favorite workout for improving footwork. The best thing about it is it is it can be setup in a completely random fashion. Simply place the cones in a random method, then try to dribble threw them all with no mistakes.
Itās extremely good for working on micro touches, so toe touches on the ball would be a great warmup to begin with.

Strength is the name of the game.
Having strength in your arsenal especially in the world of soccer has many benefits. Here a few right off the top of my head:
1. Body blocking. Great for defending the ball.
2. Mass. Makes it much harder to knock down.
3. Power. Whether striking the ball or saving it as a goal keeper, youāll need strength to do it.

The pre season fit:
Before school even started. The team was required to show up a month early to go through pre season trainings. These are the daily workouts we weāre required to attend for 5 days out of the week dressed in only black:
1. 6:30am runs with the team. Every Monday was a time trial for a 1, 2 or 3 mile run.
2. 2:00pm sweat session consisted of heavy agility and cone drills, If we were lucky, we got to break the balls out and do some cone work with the ball.
3. 6:00pm game night, weād line the goals up on the field and do half field 6v6ās and switch out the teams after whoever scored 2 goals first.
Would you enjoy it?

Consistency and purpose is the name of the game.
It may seem like it takes I take a long time to get these drills done every day, but it honestly takes no longer than 30 minutes, and your body does the rest.
Simply familiarize yourself with the ball and learn the basics: passing, dribbling and shooting is all you need to perfect. Happy hump day and get your passes in!

Yāall know the drill:
We got some post workout agility drills to keep me on my toes, then afterwards will consist of a fat protein shake and steam shower.
Remember, itās the most rewarding to do agility practice after youāre tired from a workout, for itāll feel like youāre at that 90th minute mark pushing everything you got. Itāll be hard, itāll be tough, but the reward is worth it!

Terrain:
One thing Iāve learned in my endeavors of college soccer is good terrain is not promised. Fields are never going to be the same, nor perfect. Itās a good habit to experience different fields especially if you played a lot on turf fields like I did. This way youāre accustomed to the field and can adjust your gameplay accordingly.

The better you are with close quarter dribbling, the better off youāll be in the attacking third. Once youāre able to dribble like a pro, itāll be extremely hard for defenders to stop you, for their tackle will be just another cone for you to dribble around.

Soccer players can be strong too! Hear me out.
For as long as Iāve been playing. Iāve always been told I have a soccer player build (although I was 40lbs less). As soon as I put on a little bit of size, itās like the whole world turned and now everyone says I look like a football player.
Soccer players NEED strength. The amount of power behind my kicks, throw ins and even just sprint speed have all climbed as Iāve put on healthy weight. Not to mention my dribbling speed and skill moves have slightly improved.
Now donāt get me wrong, you can definitely put weight on incorrectly. Diet is super important in doing this correctly. With the right diet and training, anything is possible.

The beauty of the sport is it can be enjoyed anywhere and anytime. It all depends on your mentality and what you want out of it. If youāre trying to simply increase your familiarity with the ball. The best thing you can do is keep it around you all the time.

Calculated trainings:
Itās important to make sure youāre getting game like reps at least once or twice a week. Doing personalized shooting, dribbling or juggling skills are great, but you canāt forget the big picture. Some games you only have a 1 or 2 chances to shoot, so itās important to make the most out of them when you can.

Would you have me on your team? šš
Although personal skill is so important in the game of soccer, the reality is the game is a team sport. You have to be willing to compromise with other players in order to be successful. Many teammates in the past have caused me trouble, but itās vital to work out the differences so you can thrive together.
