Actually, an intentionally similar process to what the Christians did when they superseded the "heathen" holidays of Roman Saturnalia and Germanic Yule with their less fun versions. Because let's be honest y'all--heathens have more fun. Beginning in the week leading up to the winter solstice and continuing for a full month, Saturnalia was a hedonistic time in which laws were suspended and social roles inverted. Enslaved people were given temporary freedom. Business and schools were closed so that everyone could participate in the festivities, which consisted of feasting, drinking heavily, and of course orgies. Romans also celebrated the sacred birthday of the infant God of the unconquerable sun, Mithra, on December 25. Sound fucking familiar? Shameless! You have to admit decimating another culture, placing your bastardized form on top of it, and gaslighting (in the modern vernacular) as if it never happened is fucking violent. Devious. They definitely earned the title within their own fabricated mythology. And freakiest of all, when your followers are oblivious to the truth and fanatically defend the false sanctity of Christ's birth (which wasn't even in the winter!) gives off some serious crusade vibes. Christian minions following their exclusionary programming become angry about "Happy Holidays" because they feel the need to continue to establish dominance through conversion. Conversion is sickening, tricking or making someone to give up their beliefs for yours, mind control colonization. Calm the fuck down, Karen, and try to think critically even though your brain is out of practice because you've been content to swallow the indoctrination shoved down your throat your whole life.
