I work in an office where dress shoes and heels are the norm, and let’s just say, I notice every time a woman kicks off her shoes under the desk. One of my coworkers, who happens to be my boss, always wears open-toed heels, and I’ve definitely taken a few quick glances when she slips them off.
One evening, I stayed late to finish a project. I walked past her desk and saw her heels left underneath. I don’t know what came over me, but I reached down and touched the inside, feeling how warm they still were. Before I could even move, I heard a voice behind me:
“Do you like them that much?”
I jumped and turned around. It was her. She had come back to grab something from her desk and caught me red-handed. My mind went blank—I had no excuse. She just smirked, walked over, and slipped her feet back into them, tilting her head like she was reading my mind.
“You know,” she said, “if you needed a break, all you had to do was ask.” Then she just walked away.
She hasn’t mentioned it since, but every time we’re alone in the office, she seems to stretch her legs out more, dangle her shoes longer, and I swear she makes eye contact when she does it. I don’t know if she’s teasing me on purpose… or if she’s waiting for me to say something.
