At first it was too emotional to let these exiled parts of my psyche surface and speak but over the past couple years I’ve leaned into it. These moments of honest expression are vulnerable and cathartic. Let the inner children sing and tell their stories! I let them say whatever they want no matter how much I cringe or hope nobody can hear me through the walls. Then I respond. I let my Self, the higher Self, hold space and speak grounding truth. So my songs have become a duet between the y0ung parts in pain and the healing energy of Self. By the time the song is finished I have expressed myself freely, all parts in the spotlight, welcomed and celebrated. In this song, my y0ung parts are working through codependence and discovering how they can experience fulfillment from within. They believe they need love from another, from a partner, from men, in order to be enough, in order for life to be good. I’m showing them how they are loved regardless and they are enough without anybody else. Everything they need is within. They’re signing about the struggle of learning to be okay on their own. They’re singing about how they’ve gone from clinging to a man most of the time and squeezing in time alone, painfully to enjoying most of their time alone and sharing space less frequently with partners. Everything is switching around for them and they are discovering that love rose from within. • I was painting in my studio, listening to another song by another artist and suddenly the lyrics to this song started flowing in. The first verse was there right away and then I stayed up late into the night to write and produce the rest of the song. It’s a bit jagged and sometimes a little offbeat or cluttered but I decided to release it in this original state with all the feeling intact rather than polish the soul out of it and get trapped in perfectionism. This song is closer to a demo quality than the other songs on the album and I wrestled with this at first, wanting every song to be produced at the highest quality. In the end, it was most important to just ship it and move on in life. -- LISTEN -- Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/track/7FQ3Nse3znT6AZHSFLatTX?si=3b0f5498736f4dbe
