As I travel the world I keep one eye on my growing “At home” to-do list. As the months role by, my little list of things that can only be done back home grows. I need to go to the dentist. I need new debit cards printed. I need to clear out storage from my parents house and ship paintings I sold, photograph journals I’ll refer to while writing my book. I need to roll on the floor with my cat and walk down the forest trail. I need to have some difficult conversations with family to resolve tensions. Check. Check. Check. It’s a time out from adventure to golean cobwebs and skeletons out of the closet. It’s a time to reach into my roots and solidify the life lessons I’ve been learning. Learn the lessons out in the world…come home and practice them. Being home amongst family in an old environment, faced with memories and daunting tasks puts me to the test. It’s easy to be calm on the tropical beach…how calm and I really under a bit more pressure? The resistance I feel here is testing me and my friends have jokingly said “You’re fighting dragons.” Gotta fight the dragon to get the gold, they say.
