My weekend turned into a bit of a mental health break. Sorry I haven’t responded to DMs. I will tomorrow. This is a post about some albums I’ve been listening to a lot lately. Lightning Bolt - Hypermagic Mountain If you want a noise album that sounds like the music your brain would make in collaboration with Teletubbies while you were feeling exhausted, angry, happy, AND hype, this album is for you. I’ve been to about 10 shows of theirs, a great many of which they didn’t play the stage and instead set up in a secret corner and randomly start playing, and they have the gentlest mosh pit around. Eerie - A Crow Looked at Me This is an album someone I knew in my younger days made about losing his wife, the immensely talented and deeply passionate artist and songwriter (ô paon) Geneviève Castrée, to cancer after their daughter was born in 2016. The loss of Geneviève hit her friends, family and community extremely hard. No one could match her talent, jokes or how deeply passionate she was about human connection. I still get choked up thinking about everything she had to give us that she wasn’t able to complete. This album is wrenching, comforting and emotionally open. A pulsing vein. A perfectly smooth rock you keep in your pocket for worry.
