Added 2021-04-17 03:15:06 +0000 UTCIf you’re going to be angry that I am angry about police in the United States killing literal children because of the inherent racial bias and white supremacy within an organization whose origin was to literally capture slaves .... I would rather you not be here. I am Latina and my step-mom is Black. I come from a multi-ethnic background and many of my friends are not other white people. I cannot ignore the pain I see my friends, family, and community in. I cannot truly love the people in my life if I am not willing to face and accept their anger and fear, even if I will never live their experiences. I cannot respect them fully or honor who they are to me if I reject the vulnerability they express when confiding these difficult emotions to me. I cannot be a friend and ally if I see them screaming for their lives and do not scream with them. I love my friends and family. I love all the Black and brown people in my community who cook me food, stock my grocery shelves, take care of the parks I love to visit, deliver my mail, and wave back to me because I love to be friendly and cannot smile at people while masked. They’re who I see every day. They deserve to feel as safe as I do in our community. I do this out of love.
