I am so ready to be home even though I had lots of fun with Kevin, and we both looked forward to the next conference (in June though). My investor and advisor and partner talks for my new company went well, but it's pretty draining.
Oh, someone commented as if venture capital people are the boss or can make you do things or perhaps you have to beg them for money. That's not true at all.
One, they MUST be hearing deals or they get fired. It's called "deal flow", it's a metric they have, and if they're not seeing enough deals per month, it means they're not searching out new opportunities hard enough, not attending enough conferences, not picking up the phone enough, not networking enough , and they get fired. So they're happy to hear an opportunity given to them by a trusted colleague.
Two, while a VC may offer money, I'm offering him a way to exponentially grow that money - something he needs for do (or, again, he's fired). All he has to do is believe my story, and I'm quite believable, my data is sound, my observation of the market is agreeable.
So, in a sense, he's begging me as much as I may beg him. But in truth, no one is begging. I offer something of value, he offers something of value. We trade, and we come away from the trade both happier than when we started. It's basically the foundation of all good business and trade.
